Sex in Church
That’s right, last night we had a great teaching about God’s plan for sex from Pastor John Burns entitled “What Teens need to know about Sex for Parents”. We heard a few words that you generally don’t hear in church, but it was all good.
Wondering where this is going? We’ll I’m not to sure, but as things would have it I’ve been listening to some podcasts from lifechurch.tv of messages by Craig Groesch and enjoying the Urban Legend series (subscribe on iTunes). I thought I’d check out their web site a bit and had a look at their webcast of a message on, you guessed it, sex!
Again a great message well worth watching, not to mention an impressive web presence and great video work.

Catch me if you can
I’d had this podcast on my iPod for some time and I just listened to it last Thursday. I was quite impresses with Mr Abagnale’s story and even more impressed with his life after being caught. He had some profound things to say about life and his values. Just last night the movie was replaying on TV and it was interesting to watch it again after learning some of the truths about the story.
Well worth a listen.

As pilots, we have probably all heard of Mr Frank W. Abagnale, whose life inspired the hit movie and book, Catch Me If You Can. I had the opportunity to meet him on one of my flights. To our good fortune, he graciously agreed to talk to the Flying Pilot Podcast listeners. So, in this episode we hear a speech given by Mr. Abagnale about his life, and then I ask him a few questions in a short interview over Skype about his earlier years, and about what he is doing now. We also talk about some things that pilots should do to help secure themselves from identy theft.

Who knew you could do this? Well, apparently Scott did!
I was recently in the CanWest Global boardroom for some meetings on the 33rd floor. The building is located right at the corner of Portage & Main, the heart of downtown Winnipeg. So, on one of the breaks, I took a few photos.
Well, last night one of them became a Photoshop project for Scott. Quite an interesting effect. The original photo can be seen here and some more examples can be seen on the flickr tilt-shift miniature fakes group.

Outdoors on a cool Saturday
We had a relaxed Saturday morning getting up a little later that usual and having a few coffees while doing a little reading before being picked up by our good friends, Chris & Elaine. We headed over to Cora’s at 340 Provencher Blvd. Great restaurant and great food. We all sampled something a little different and were impressed by the quility, decore and lots of fresh fruit. OK guys, there were a few things on the menu with lots of meat, fried potatoes and alike, but generally a little more healthy that your average Perkins mega-meal.
After brunch we headed over to the Fort Whyte nature center for some outdoor activities. Shaun, our financial advisory over at Assante invited us out to a customer event and we had a great time in spite of the cold temperatures and a wind chill of about -30C. I went down the Richardson rrrrun toboggan slide, where “screaming is compulsory!”. Then we all went on the sleigh ride (my photos) which was pulled by a beautiful pair of Clydesdale horses. On the sleigh ride the kids had a great time jumping on and off the sleigh, and we saw quite a few deer along the route. Afterwards we explored the sod house, and then headed over to one of the main buildings for some hot chocolate and cookies. It was a great afternoon, thanks to Shaun and his assistants.
Since we were out and about the ladies wanted to explore some shops at one of the big box complexes. Chris and I explored another kind of shopping over at the auto mall, checking out the latest Acura, Honda & Toyotas. That new Ridgeline is looking good, but then so is the Pilot. Chris was really checking out the Rav4 quite closely. Well window shopping is still free, thank goodness.

Wakeboarding
I was cleaning up my home office and came across a photo album. Well of course I had to stop working and flip through the photos. There were lots of great shots from the lake, biking at Maah Daah Hey, parties and graduations.
This one really brought back some memories of a great day with friends at Granite Lake. I even took a couple of runs on the wakeboard for the first time. But, I wasn’t flying over the wake like this!

The Phantom
It’s not every day you come home to meet The Phantom, but tonight, as I came in the door, I was greeted by a tall gentleman in a tux & tails with an opera cape who looked quite spectacular.
The occasion was a Masquerade Theme party for a volunteer group at our church that Scott is a part of. It will be interesting to hear about the other party goers as what costumes turned up for the event.

New Years Day
It’s New Years Day 2007 and most folks have dug out from the major snow storm that slowed the city down quite a bit for New Years Eve day. We’ve just been relaxing around the house and talking. It’s quite sunny and fairly warm so I decide that some outdoor activity would be good.
Up to this point there has been very little snow and it seems like a good opportunity to break out the snowshoes and go for a bit of a hike. I decide on going to a trail along side the Seine River that I frequently mountain bike in the summer. While driving over I find out that lots of streets have not yet been plowed. Ours was done sometime after 2am last night, but over on old St. Boniface, they are still waiting and the road passage is still single lane.
Someone and their dog has already broken the trail, so I’m just “improving” it with the snowshoes. I’ve got the camera with me and the new iPod. I’d been thinking about getting one for some time, but was really not to excited about the cost of such a “toy”. Yesterday, some very unexpected money came my way, and I decided to splurge. So, while hiking along the trail I’ve been listening to the TEDTALKS podcasts, which are very enjoyable and stopping every once in a while to shoot some photos.
It was a great outing. Next time I’ll remember the gaiters, as my jeans are soaked up to the knees from the snow flipping up my legs with every step in the deep powder snow.

Snow Angel
As we were walking in St. Vital park, we came across somebody’s handy work in the snow. It’s good to see that there are still some “children” out there that don’t need to be plugged into an iPod, constantly on a cell phone or the latest game console to have fun. Come to think of it, I should have made another one right next to it! 🙂
