  • Things you really didn’t want to know

Thanks to StumbleUpon I now know Tina’s real name. I’m a big fan of her’s and this really won’t make any difference but it’s something I really didn’t want to know. Have you ever made a discover that you didn’t really want to know? I’ts kind of hard to turn back the hands of time on these “discoveries”.

  • Starbucks and Jesus

First a confession, I lifted the picture from the Purpose Driven Life Cafe site.

After receiving an email forwarded several times and following a few links I ended up at Starbucks and Jesus
and read the excerpt from John Fisher’s book Confessions of a Caffeinated Christian which I found quite interesting and I’ve added the book to my Amazon wishlist. Being a Starbuck’s fan myself drew me into the story where the authour parallels his Starbuck’s experience with his Jesus experience and I found myself relating and identifying with the story. As is typical with the web, one thing lead to another as I explored the Purpose Driven Life site because I was attracted by the relevance and relatability of the story. I’ve read the Purpose Driven Life book quite some time ago, but this experience has me thinking about re-reading it soon.

The outcome of all this is that I subscribed to their daily devotional newsletter and I’m looking forward to more real life encounters with Christ and a deeper and renewed faith walk with the King of Kings.

Purpose Driven Life: Purpose Driven Café

Starbucks and Jesus Excerpted from John’s book Confessions of a Caffeinated Christian By John Fischer I am a loyal, shameless consumer of the Starbucks brand. I drink my coffee every day out of a stainless steel mug with a snap-on lid I got at Starbucks three years ago. I have a Starbucks cap. I fly United whenever possible because they have a good frequent flyer program although the fact that they serve Starbucks on board does not go unnoticed. I get a warm feeling inside when I’m on the road and I see the circular green logo. It’s home away from home. As far as I’m concerned, there is coffee and there is Starbucks, and that’s about it. Coffee is what you get at Circle K or 7 Eleven. Starbucks is what you go a little out of your way for.

  • Now I lay Me Down To Sleep

Some friends were over last night for dinner and mentioned an article they had seen in the National Post. It was a front page storry about an organization of volunteer photographers that donate their services to provide photographic memories of terminaly ill babies and their families. As a parent the very idea of losing a child at any stage of life to me is beyond understanding and even more so for a child so young and full of promise.  This is such a wonderful idea and an incredible organization. If I were a professional photographer I would be so there. I’d urge you to read the storys, they will touch your heart and if you can, to participate. Here is one families story.

Now I lay Me Down To Sleep – ~Infant Bereavement Photography~

But there is another aspect of pregnancy and birth. There is an unexpected place in this journey where some families may find themselves. When a baby dies, a world is turned upside down. There is confusion, sadness, fear, and uncertainty that cannot be explained. There is sorrow where there should have been joy. During this time, it might be impossible for families to know what they might need in order to heal in the future.

This is the place where NOW I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP gently provides a helping hand and a healing heart. NOW offers a vital service to our community. For families overcome by grief and pain, the idea of photographing their baby may not immediately occur to them. Offering gentle and beautiful photography and videography services in a compassionate and sensitive manner is the heart of this organization. The soft, gentle heirloom photographs of these beautiful babies are an important part of the healing process. They allow families to honor and cherish their babies, and share the spirits of their lives.

  • Bird House Geocaching discovery

December is a great time of year and people generally don’t have better things to do. But that message didn’t get out to the extended family on Shirley’s side so we spend a good part of a lovely +25C sunny Saturday in a basement hall attending a wedding. A very nice wedding, and the bride and groom were lovely and it was all very nice. (I’ll finish this later, company has
    arrived!)

So, I hope nobody missed us too much, but we bailed before the speeches began and we heard later that there was dancing and games and the party went on for most of the afternoon. With the great weather and the desire to be outside Shirley and I went off Geocaching. We’ve had lots of fun with this high-tech hide and seek game and as BigDadoo and Hot Mamma we’ve found several caches over the past couple of years. This afternoon we focused on some caches along the Red River. We found two in St. Vital Park, Frogtastically Green, You’re Invited and TikiHut. In fact, the picture is the “Tiki Hut”. This is where the cache is hidden, in the base of the birdhouse behind that latch and swing updoor. Some people are so clever and this is definitively one of the more creative caches we’ve found to date.

While we were in the area we also saw the power of the river and river bank erosion at work on this tree where the trunk has been split in two from the bottom up.
