  • Soaked

Day 3 of the Commuter Challenge and just another day of bike commuting to work but a wetter ride than usual. The forecast was for rain but it was still dry after I finished my dental appointment at 11 so I took the bike.
I knew it was likely and sure enough the ride home was in a steady downpour. I even got the big splash from a passing car. Not that it made any difference at that point because I was completely soaked! (update)

  • Comuting by bike

Today is the first day of the Commuter Challenge for 2007 where you’re encouraged to commute using sustainable transportation, like a bike.
After dropping Shirley off at the airport at 6:30am I biked to work. I enjoyed passing all the traffic in the construction zones which are everywhere in Winnipeg ( two seasons, winter and construction).
Bike commuting does have it’s challenges. I was greeted with a flat tire when I picked up my bike for the ride home. This was the first ever while commuting. Time to stock up on tubes & patch a few.

  • Floyd, The Tour & Doping

If you followed the 2006 Tour de France or Floyd ,or you weren’t living under a rock, you’ve probabley heard about the doping alligations and probably think the issue is all over, he’s guilty (according to the press) and that it’s old news.

I picked up a Cycling magazine the other day to learn it’s far from over. The challenge and hearings are just heating up. Did you know that there still has not been a tour winner declared and that no prize money has been awarded pending the outcome of the hearings?  Check out the other side of the story, the one the press really has been ignoring.

  • Automated Comment Spam

    Wow, is this stuff wicked!

I turned of the Akismet spam filter for a few minutes while I upgraded my WordPress blog to 2.2. In those few minutes some automated system was able to squeeze in 4 spam comments to my low traffic site. What happens to popular sites?

Thankfully, they don’t bite but they are thick around the waters edge so there is not too much hanging around the dock right now. This isn’t too much of a problem as it’s misty/raining most of the time so far.

I think today will be a day for doing some tree transplanting.

Staff are training furiously, good stuff!

  • Stormy

It was a dark and stormy night…
The late night drive to the lake was highlighted by non-stop lightening and intermittant heavy rain. Not too much different today. We’re in Kenora shopping for something to do and picking up some movies.
The wireless is broken or messed up but the cable connection to the net is still working. I think a nap is a very good possibility.
    – I’m just hanging out in the car, working and playing. Perhaps, nap… Zzzz… Zzzz… Zzzz.

  • Time consuming

I’m at home, alone. Shirley is working, Scott is gone. It’s quiet, and the morning is almost gone. I’ve had many cups of coffee as I work on a building a presentation for Monday.

I have the bulk of the presentation material and I’m just creating two custom slides. How long can it take? Longer that I’d like. One slide has a lot of animation. Yeah, I know, not a good move for a presentation, but it should work and be a lot of fun.

The harder one has been lifting a mySpace video in FLV format and converting it to something I can put into Powerpoint. Well, after 3 hrs of hacking around and getting video with no audio, audio with no video and video with audio that sounds like the chipmunks, and getting some help from a friend I bought some FLV to AVI software. Free is not always better and the demo version worked for me quick & easy. So, it’s a company expense because this was all about a company presentations.
