  • A little site maintenance

I’ve just upgraded my blog to WordPress 2.5 and all seems to have gone well, whic is a good thing since I’m going to bed now and really didn’t want to have to stay up to sort things out. I’ve had enough issues with upgrading PC software lately.

  • Apple is insidious

Just doing a little blog reading and idle surfing with a cup of coffee and up pops the Apple Software Updater window. “Hey”, is says, “I’ve got something new for you!”. But, it’s not the usual update to iTunes or Quicktime, but a cross proportional up sell to try and switch me to Safari. For some reason I click “accept”. You’d think I’d learn after spending a better part of a week trying to track down why my computer would automatically re-boot on it’s own ever 3-4 hours. Why just yesterday I told myself, “Self, no more installing random software, at least not without backing up everything is sight first”. So much for that resolution

I headed out to Birdshill park where there are lots of groomed trails, most of which I’ve not skied yet, in fact I’ve only skied one other trail so far this year. With the nice weather, lots of other folks had the idea to go skiing and the paring lot was jammed. I squeezed in between a couple of cars on and angle and got my gear together and launched out on the trails.

It was a very nice trail, in and out of the woods, with lots of turns and a few gentle hills. In fact there were lots of turns and switchbacks. While I have a good sense of direction, after a while I really didn’t know where I was, which direction the parking lot was in, or how far away I was. After a while I was keeping an eye on the sun, watching it go down and wondering if I’d get out of here before nightfall.

I was really kind of stuck on this trail. Not knowing where I was, all I could do was to keep on going and follow the trail markers. After a while I started putting my initials in the snow back just in case I was looping around in an endless loop, or perhaps the rescue party could use them to recover me frozen body. Any way I just kept on going knowing that sooner or later I’d go by the parking lot as all these trails are loops, unless I made some sort of mistake.

Once I was pack at the parking lot I looked at the trail map and I’d managed to get onto the longest trail in the system, 14km, so it was a good workout for the afternoon.

This guy is one of the bears form the Bears on Broadway exhibition that has 50-60 bear figures up and down Broadway Avenue for the summer. At the end of the exhibit, the bears were moved to various locations around the city. Do you know where this on is? It’s in front of a travel agency.

The basement has been fully cleared to the outside walls and lots and lots of cool wallpaper has been peeled away already. Today’s focus was on this wall. or should I say “former” wall. One end of the wall has been removed and the other side has been opened up to create an interior window between the kitchen and living room. The electrical in the new wall has been installed and other older wiring removed. Eric had a little fun up in the attic as we strung new wiring to the kitchen lights. It’s quite dusty up there and he was wearing a dust mask that made him sound like Darth Vader.
