Not exactly my thought but I read it today and it resonated with me.
Your words will tell others what you think, your actions will tell them what you believe.

Out of the blue, and quite unexpectedly I received an award this morning at the FOG AGM (Fast Old Guys cycling club Anual General Meeting)

The award is for “Focused On Goals, in recognition of outstanding accomplishments in road cycling”.

The club recognized my cycling in 2018 as I went through cancer and chemotherapy, mainly with pretty steady Wednesday rides with the retired FOG group (FROGs). I only did a couple of the Saturday group rides in 2018 as the ride distance and pace was a little much given the circumstances and wanting to spend more time at the lake on weekends with family and friends.
It was quite an honour to receive the award and I was quite touched and moved by the clubs thoughts towards me during this period.
Also, as a result, one of the other riders connected with me to share his very recent journey with prostate cancer. We were able to share thoughts and feelings about he impact on our lives. Again, a very special privilege.
Sort of like “will it float” but different.
For the last little while I’ve been thinking about being at our cottage for the day or evening when the water skims over with ice for the 1st time of the winter season. So, I planned a late in the year visit to the lake to see if I could catch the day. I thought that I’d missed out as I’d heard reports of other lakes freezing over already.
I arrived after dark so I couldn’t really tell what was going on and I didn’t feel the need to go down to the dock to check it out. After all there was the unloading of the car and firing up all the heat generating sources to turn the cottage around from 0°C to a more comfy 20°C. This involved turning on the electric furnace, getting the fireplace going and hauling out the kerosene heater and bringing it upstairs.
The next morning, to my surprise, when I looked out at the lake, there was no ice!

However, the lake is trying to freeze up and in places it’s pretty much a done deal.

Most of the Kenora harbour has ice with only a few open spots. At Cameron Point the current is still keeping a section open. Even as the water flows under the walking bridge to Coney you can see large star shaped ice formations drifting by.

Perhaps tonight or tomorrow night will be the day! Winds are forecast to be low and the temperature will take a bit of a dip to -10°C to -15°C tonight. So, will it freeze?
Some thoughts from this mornings mindfulness meditation.
The present is always here. The past has gone, the future is yet to be, but where am I spending the most of my thought life? Reliving the past that can’t be changed? Anticipating or planning the future which may or may not happen? Or, am I fully engaged in taking in the present of right here and now?
The analogy of clouds was used as a way of visualizing the progress towards being more and more present in life. A cloudy overcast day being representative of spending my thought life in either the past or future, anywhere but the present and my senses are cut off from what is happening right here and now. Or are there breaks in the clouds? A glimpse of what it is like to be present that is then quickly gone.
Perhaps, as mindfulness develops in me it’s more like a day with lots of big fluffy clouds and the breaks between clouds are the moments of being full present with all my senses alive to the moment. The progress in mindfulness being the ability to have the breaks between the clouds expand and have the clouds farther apart and spend more time in the present moment.
For the second time in the last couple of weeks I’ve had one of those moments that makes you pause and really think about what’s going on.
Today, the 1st devotion from Follow the Rabbi – Day 14 and is about clouds as a reminder of God’s presence.

Then the very next reading in 7 More Hebrew Words Every Christian Should Know is about clouds again!

Makes me pause and wonder about what God is saying to me, certainly a special moment
“For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you.”
