     WHOSE CHOICE IS IT?

When sitting in a stillness before God, I often ponder my choices.

    · My choice to be quiet and choose rest.

    · My choice to live a life of faith.

    · My choice to forgive others leads to my freedom.

    · My choice to let go of the things I cannot control.

    · My choice to accept the promises of God for my life.

    · My choice to trust in His faithfulness regardless of my circumstances.

Life can be difficult and draining. We encounter problems, failures, and various overwhelming issues. Often, we want to shift blame and point a finger. We can easily fall into a “victim” mentality. We feel defensive.

After years of coaching and mentoring, I wrestle with the profound question: “Who is in charge of me/you?” Is it your boss, your neighbor, or your little brother? Is it still your mother or father? At some point, we all realize that we must take responsibility for our daily responses and decisions. We can aimlessly blame our lives away, like a victim, or we can take smart steps to walk towards a victory for greater, more powerful tomorrows…. starting today!

  • Row, Row, Row…

… your boat. Well not quite a boat but for the off-water season it’s an indoor rower, specifically a WATERROWER Club on loan from Mandy.

With the iPad attached to the arm on the front of the rower there are a number of applications that can make indoor rowing a bit more interesting. My current favorite is EXR which is like Zwift for indoor rowers. It has some decent animations which give you an avatar in a rowing scull on a variety of rowing courses, rivers and lakes. Not yet a sophisticated as Zwift but that seems to be the direction they are going with the app. Integration with Apple Health, Zwift and Concept2 logbook (not yet working for me)

    Some other apps:

    • WATERROWER Connect – Software right from the rowing machine vendor. Displays various rowing stats. No Concept2 logbook integration ☹️
    • ERGdata – For the Concept2 rower with current PM5 monitor
    • ERGzone – workouts and stats, connects to the Waterrower and other machines. Can integrate with the Concept2 logbook which seems to be the Bible for tracking rowing efforts across multiple platforms. Most integrations require ERGzone+ for $$
    • Apple Fitness+ – row along workout classes. Links with Strava and Apple Health. Some coaching and motivational music.

EXR provides a list of what they considered to be the best rowing apps for 2025 on their blog at https://exrgame.com/blog/article/best-rowing-apps

I’m sure there are more. Let me know your favorites in the comments.

    Who is like the Lord

    • Strong in battle
    • Mighty to save
    • King forever

    Jesus reigns, Jesus reigns.

  • One More Night

The sound track of my hospital stay for the plurodectamy.

As the drainage and air leak continue I’m told “one more night” and then we’ll re-evaluate.

Surgery was Feb. 20th and the stay was planed for overnight. It’s Day 4, Feb 23rd.

  • Psalm 118

A lot of highlights in this chapter.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.”

“I will not die; instead, I will live to tell what the Lord has done.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭118‬:‭17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“I thank you for answering my prayer and giving me victory!”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭118‬:‭21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    And one of the first…

“This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.”

  • Even there…

Where ever my “even there” is, God is there, He will guide me and support me.

  • I’m scared

Wow. What a great and honest prayer from today’s devotion.

    Day 4

“God, I’m scared and I feel so alone. I don’t know how I’m going to make it through this. Please be with me and silence my fear. Remind me of your strength and power in my life, and comfort me with your presence. Amen.”

  • Going nuclear

I’ve thought this for some time now. We (the world) can’t get to clean energy in the short term ( before 2035 or 2050) without nuclear.

Check it out. Existing reactors are now having their life extended and shutdowns have been reversed.

The exciting nuclear future is in Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). Not your grandfathers nuclear power plant.

    Investing? From the TLDR newsletter...

Nuclear power is (excuse the pun) hot, as nations shift away from natural gas and coal. The result? Uranium prices rose 40% this year to their highest level in more than a decade. Canada stands to benefit; it produces 13% of the world’s yellowcake, the stuff used to power reactors. The stock price of one yellowcake producer, Cameco ($CCO), has already climbed by more than 70% this year.

Everyone needs to get over the fears they have based on a few accidents where the deaths and dangers were very much exaggerated. Benefits far our weigh dangers.

  • Strength of my Heart

I use the YouVersion Bible app to guide my bible reading and every day it presents a Verse of the Day.

Today’s Verse of the Day, on the day I’m having my angiogram, is Psalm 73:26.

Then the YouVersion Bible app “randomly” brings up a prayer request from my list entitled “Chest Pain” that started back in February.

    Today the testing has arrived.

That prayer was followed by this one…

The MIBI testing on Nov 27 & 28, 2023 shows there are blockages that lead to today’s angiogram.

More than ever I’ll need to rely on God to be the “strength of my heart” as today’s angiogram revealed several significant blockages that they were unable to open with stents today.

The recommendation is for bypass surgery to address three blockage areas. While I knew that this was a possibility it still comes and a bit of a shock and something I’m struggling coming to terms with.
