  • Things you really didn’t want to know

Thanks to StumbleUpon I now know Tina’s real name. I’m a big fan of her’s and this really won’t make any difference but it’s something I really didn’t want to know. Have you ever made a discover that you didn’t really want to know? I’ts kind of hard to turn back the hands of time on these “discoveries”.

  • Starbucks and Jesus

First a confession, I lifted the picture from the Purpose Driven Life Cafe site.

After receiving an email forwarded several times and following a few links I ended up at Starbucks and Jesus
and read the excerpt from John Fisher’s book Confessions of a Caffeinated Christian which I found quite interesting and I’ve added the book to my Amazon wishlist. Being a Starbuck’s fan myself drew me into the story where the authour parallels his Starbuck’s experience with his Jesus experience and I found myself relating and identifying with the story. As is typical with the web, one thing lead to another as I explored the Purpose Driven Life site because I was attracted by the relevance and relatability of the story. I’ve read the Purpose Driven Life book quite some time ago, but this experience has me thinking about re-reading it soon.

The outcome of all this is that I subscribed to their daily devotional newsletter and I’m looking forward to more real life encounters with Christ and a deeper and renewed faith walk with the King of Kings.

Purpose Driven Life: Purpose Driven Café

Starbucks and Jesus Excerpted from John’s book Confessions of a Caffeinated Christian By John Fischer I am a loyal, shameless consumer of the Starbucks brand. I drink my coffee every day out of a stainless steel mug with a snap-on lid I got at Starbucks three years ago. I have a Starbucks cap. I fly United whenever possible because they have a good frequent flyer program although the fact that they serve Starbucks on board does not go unnoticed. I get a warm feeling inside when I’m on the road and I see the circular green logo. It’s home away from home. As far as I’m concerned, there is coffee and there is Starbucks, and that’s about it. Coffee is what you get at Circle K or 7 Eleven. Starbucks is what you go a little out of your way for.

  • Now I lay Me Down To Sleep

Some friends were over last night for dinner and mentioned an article they had seen in the National Post. It was a front page storry about an organization of volunteer photographers that donate their services to provide photographic memories of terminaly ill babies and their families. As a parent the very idea of losing a child at any stage of life to me is beyond understanding and even more so for a child so young and full of promise.  This is such a wonderful idea and an incredible organization. If I were a professional photographer I would be so there. I’d urge you to read the storys, they will touch your heart and if you can, to participate. Here is one families story.

Now I lay Me Down To Sleep – ~Infant Bereavement Photography~

But there is another aspect of pregnancy and birth. There is an unexpected place in this journey where some families may find themselves. When a baby dies, a world is turned upside down. There is confusion, sadness, fear, and uncertainty that cannot be explained. There is sorrow where there should have been joy. During this time, it might be impossible for families to know what they might need in order to heal in the future.

This is the place where NOW I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP gently provides a helping hand and a healing heart. NOW offers a vital service to our community. For families overcome by grief and pain, the idea of photographing their baby may not immediately occur to them. Offering gentle and beautiful photography and videography services in a compassionate and sensitive manner is the heart of this organization. The soft, gentle heirloom photographs of these beautiful babies are an important part of the healing process. They allow families to honor and cherish their babies, and share the spirits of their lives.

  • New Vehicle?

Given that the van engine decide to have a little failure that caused it to be replaced for a whopping repair bill, perhap I should be looking at the Infinity, now billed as the most expensive CD ripper going. On second thought an iPod would do very nicely. Cars, can’t live without them, can’t live with the repair bills.

  • Sidewalk Art

After being warned by Seth about Stumble, I did it anyway and look what I stumbled upon. It’s hard to imagine that these are just sidewalk drawings! they just take you to another place and cause you to do a double take and wonder if what you’re seeing can be real. Very impressive and so much work for a temporary result. Oh yeah, Stumble is addictive, so consider yourself warned.

  • Cycle Couple

Cycle CoupleOriginally uploaded by Big Dadoo

Mandi & Scott looking very fashionable and getting ready for a ride. They’ve been gone for hours and it’s very dark now. I wonder where they are? They should have logged 50+ km by now.

UPDATE: Part of the delay was caused by running into a truck!

  • Laugh out loud

OK, after scanning some blogs I like to read from time to time, I came across this one and just for fun, followed the link to the “pretty funny slogans”. LOL, especially the “Turn or Burn”, hmmmm, by aunt goes to a baptist church. Good thing most folks in the office have gone home for the day, I just about fell out of my chair.

  • Just in case…

… you think you might get hit with a Taser gun, you might want to pick up a couple of these t-shirts. You never know when they might come in handy.

  • Youth over seniority, this time…

Yesterday I went out for the first bike ride of the season with Eric. A coolish day at +5C with a strong north wind and the roads are starting to dry up a bit, but there are still lots of big puddles in places. Well the first 20km was pretty good and we were keeping pace with each other, but then things started to fall apart, at least for me. The legs were burning and I was starting to fall behind. Even after a few rest breaks, I just couldn’t keep up the pace. This was a little surprising since last year, keeping up was more of Eric’s problem. Some how I don’t think 32km was such a good distance for my first ride.

Well, the challenge is on for me. I need to get back in shape quickly before there is no hope of keeping up. And I really refuse to let the 30 year age difference have anything to do with it.

  • The World is Flat – Video Lecture

I’ve had this video bookmarked for a long time, and I finally got around to watching it, and its great stuff. Since I have not read the book yet, I think I’ll add it to my Amazon WishList in case anybody is interested :-). Mr. Friedman tells a great story about checking in to a South West Airlines flight and learning about printing your boarding pass from home. His comment was one I was familiar with in that by printing your own boarding pass, you are becoming an employee of South West Airlines, but then he surprised me by saying if you value your time (I do!) that you are paying South West to be their employee! Think about that!

MIT World » : The World is Flat

Chances are good that Bhavya in Bangalore will read your next x-ray, or as Thomas Friedman learned first hand, “Grandma Betty in her bathrobe” will make your Jet Blue plane reservation from her Salt Lake City home. In “Globalization 3.0,” Friedman contends, people from far-flung places will become principal players in the marketplace.
