{"id":960,"date":"2013-02-13T21:34:55","date_gmt":"2013-02-14T03:34:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bigdadoo.com\/blog\/?p=960"},"modified":"2013-02-13T21:39:52","modified_gmt":"2013-02-14T03:39:52","slug":"icebike-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bigdadoo.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/13\/icebike-13\/","title":{"rendered":"Icebike 13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So the day after flying back from our Maui vacation, I&#8217;m out at The Forks doing a 16km bike race, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/395144527228839\/\" target=\"_blank\">Icebike 13<\/a>. Fortunatly, it&#8217;s the warmest For an Icebike ever at -4\u00b0C. There has not been an Icebike for a couple of years and I was really pleased to see it come back this year. Participants were sporting all manner of bikes from high end road, cross and mountain bikes to some low-end bikes, like the 30+ year old steel commuter bike I road. While a nice light \u00a0bike might be an asset, especially dragging it up some of the cross-style sections of the course, I think it&#8217;s more about the rider. Besides, I didn&#8217;t have time to switch over the studded tires to the Specialized Rockhopper, and I really wanted those tires. The tires really paid off as this year there was quite a bit of &#8220;ice&#8221; in the Icebike course, and while others were slipping and sliding, I was riding hard and confident.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net\/hphotos-ak-ash4\/379226_528472780530558_1626932051_n.jpg\" width=\"576\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I think this year was my best <a href=\"http:\/\/www.woodcockcycle.com\/files\/2013\/IceBike_13_2013_Results.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">race result<\/a> as well. I&#8217;d heard that 58 riders registered, the results list 49, 2 DNFs and I placed 26th! Not bad in my estimation. Too bad they don&#8217;t rank by age categories.
